About the maker of Flute Tears Flutes

My name is Brad Vaughn aka Flute Tears, I am one-fourth Chickasaw Indian.  My grandmother was an “unregistrated” Chickasaw Indian woman, her name was Nellie Rosie Bell Peggram.  She spent her adult life in Arkansas where my mother grew up.  In those days it was not a popular thing to state your Native American heritage and that is why my heritage is undocumented.

I became interested in the Native American flute about 4 years ago when I purchased my first, a bamboo 6 hole flute.  I quickly learned to play and enjoyed the tunes very much.  About 2 years ago my curiously got to me and I began researching what was involved in creating a flute of my own.  Since than I have created almost 100 flutes of various keys with all very different woods and block or fetish.

Each flute that I create is very personal to me and each is very different.  I am still learning and with each flute I learn something new.  When I first begin, I carved the “flue” by hand now I am using a metal spacer making each a  easier to tune.  I am using turquoise and coral inlay to decorate each flute and sometimes incorporating my bead work.  And my carving of the block is getting more and more in-depth.

While playing my music on MP3 and Ampcast where I had two cd’s with my music collection, a movie producer heard my recording of “Sunset”.  This was one of my first recordings and it was accompanied by Cass Holland on the keyboard   This recording can be heard in an HBO documentary called “Missing Peace”  Missing Peace is the story of Ingrid Betancourt, a Colombian presidential candidate held hostage by Colombian guerrillas and her family’s desperate quest to free her and keep her campaign alive

Some History of the Love Flute

These traditional Native American flutes are known by several names, the
most common being LOVE FLUTES or COURTING FLUTES.  As the
name suggests, they were flutes played in courting rituals - by a young
man serenading his intended bride.  Generally they were played for no
other reason, although some men are known to have played them for their
wives as a sign of love.

Dear Brad,

My flute arrived safely yesterday.  I like the placement of the holes. And am surprised at the little amount of air I need to use in blowing in it.  It is a very nice flute. I am looking forward to hearing more about
you maple flute.
Sincerely,
Bonnie

Brad, the G flute that you sent me plays as perfect as native flutes get..just the right amount of pressure in the chamber, tuned perfectly, and nice warm voice."

excellent flute quick shipper,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

It's terrific. Thanks for the opportunity to own a second one.

Absolutely stunning! It has an exceptional tone. My first but not my last.

Dana bought a flute from me on ebay and in shipping it was smashed she wanted a replacment no problem at all shiped her a replacement.

Hi Brad, I found your flute this afternoon(safe arrival) but I am not sure when it arrived(odd placement of parcel). The sound is amazing! There are undertones that I have not heard in other flutes. What is causing the "warbling" sound? The frequency of the vibrato adds to the already hypnotic and healing sound. I look forward to seeing and utilizing the flute making information on your website. I want to at least cover the expenses and will email images of the other flute as soon as I figure out how to download images,ie, all of the support software. Thanks again for another awesome flute!
Peace, Dana
